Maestro Svilen Simeonov, conductor of Simfonietta orchestra: We have to change the social status of classical musicians

- Maestro Simeonov, in recent years, I have had the chance and the pleasure to travel with the Simfonietta orchestra and I have witnessed a series of its brilliant performances throughout Europe. Would you, please, present the orchestra?
- In 2012, the Simfonietta Sofia orchestra marked its 40th anniversary and I have been its conductor for the last 12 years. My work with Simfonietta Sofia is based on friendship and fellowship.

- What is your mission?
- I love playing with the baton, I love playing with the audience. The talent to express yourself with your face and whole body is highly appreciated by the audience. Although this is a game, the audience should feel sincerity, this is very important for winning it over. Conducting is a responsible mission for me, a plastic game, a theatre that persuades the musicians in front of me and the audience behind me that music is primarily something exciting, a deep emotion that goes into the heart and soul. In this role, the conductor must be an absolute leader but among equals. I believe the conductor should be a musician in the first place, and then – a conductor.

- What are your creative plans?
- Since 2007, I have been working with two European agencies - Promoconcert and Euroconcert - and an American agency - Artist World Concert Promotion. I am very grateful to them. My creative plans for the next season are connected with them, including concerts and recordings in Bulgaria, Spain, Gran Canaria, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Serbia, the USA and other countries. Apart from my concert activities I am committed to the idea of changing the social status of classical musicians. I feel very sad when looking at us, classical musicians, in comparison to the other artists. We are at the bottom of the social ladder. This must change and it depends on us alone!
