Proceeds from overnights in November total BGN 24.3 mln

Proceeds from overnights at hotels and other accommodation places in Bulgaria amounted to BGN 24.3 mln in November, 17% less than in October, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced on Thursday. A decrease was registered both in the proceeds from foreigners (29.7%) and Bulgarian citizens (4.6%). The decline is understandable since October and November are transitional months between the summer and the winter tourist season.

In November 2012, some 1,653 accommodation places with more than 10 beds (hotels, motels, camping sites, etc.) were functioning in the country. The number of rooms in them was 48,400 and that of beds – 95,700. In November, the total number of accommodation places decreased by 6.9% and that of beds - by 28.4%, compared to the previous month.

The total number of nights spent in all accommodation places amounted to 502,700 in November, including 360,700 overnights by are Bulgarian citizens and 142,000 by foreigners. Some 66.1% of foreigners’ overnights and 29% of Bulgarians’ overnights were at 4- and 5-star hotels; 33.3% of Bulgarian citizens’ overnights and 23.9% of foreign nationals’ overnights were at 3-star accommodation places, while this proportion at 1- and 2-star accommodation places was 37.8% and 10%, respectively.

The overall occupancy rate of beds at hotels and other accommodation places was 18.2% in November 2012, being the highest at 4- and 5-star hotels – 23.6%, followed by 3-star hotels – 18.6%, and that at 1- and 2-star accommodation places was 13.7%. An increase in the occupancy rate, compared to the previous month, was registered only at 4- and 5-stars hotels - 2.2%.
