Bulgaria turns from external EU border into a front line in touch of risks and threats, Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov said when opened the forum themed “The role of NATO and EU in the wider Black sea region”.

“It is pleasure for me again to be a guest at your Conference. I am sure it will be very beneficial forum. In the past year we have been witnessing process of widening of the rage of threats to the security. In practice, there is an area of uncertainty on south and southwest, which is a complex mix of different processes. Somewhere the political dynamics leads to the emergence of failed countries reigned by violence and chaos. There is sharpened feeling of social deadlock and lack of perspectives for development in many societies in North Africa and the Middle East,” Minister Mitov stated.

In his words, economics hardly deal in times of global economic insecurity. “There is risk of overall decay of the regional system created around a century ago. Increasing terrorist threats are most visible on the background of continuing influence by ISIL, which not just attacks our civilisation values, but strengthens further their positions. The refugee crisis is the biggest challenge since decades.

There are also risks on the northeast – Russia’s efforts for destabilisation of Ukraine significantly changed security in Europe,” Mitov added.
