“Amendments adopted to the Tobacco and Tobacco Products Act aim at motivating the local production,” Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva said speaking with journalists at parliament.

“The draft bill filed by the Ministry of Economy synchronises the legislation with the European regulations on the free movement of goods. The draft bill of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) and the Reformist Block makes changes to the functioning of the tobacco sector,” the minister explained, adding that the amendments would also set registers of the tobacco producers and traders.

“Contracts will be introduced, as well as committees with the district agriculture directorates,” Ms Taneva commented further.

“The major goal is to motivate the production of tobacco in Bulgaria, to motivate the production of high-quality tobacco, which will get better price,” Minister Desislava Taneva remarked.
