Simeonov is against the state paying U.S. TPPs debts
The European Commission confirmed the fact that agreements with U.S. power plants are state aid. Co-chair of the Patriotic Front Valeri Simeonov stated the same about an inquiry that the Committee on Monitoring of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission sent. He is chairman of the committee, which asked if those agreements constitute state aid under EU directives.
He commented on the draft bill on terminating agreements with the two TPPs, as well as BEH's demand for a loan in order to repay NEK's debts to the two TPPs.
In his words, these funds should not be given to the TPPs because this means Bulgaria acknowledges the agreements and it will be hard to terminate them. By the end of the year the Committee will receive an answer to its inquiry whether TPP AES Maritza Iztok I and TPP ContourGlobal Maritza Iztok 3 received state aid, Mr Simeonov explained.
