Tourist branch demands flexible policy for free movement of people
The Institute for Analyses and Assessments in Tourism forecasts that migration pressure would have an impact on tourism within the EU, because by entering European countries, migrants use some elements of the tourist services. In Bulgaria the migrant becomes a tourist, because according to local legislation, every foreign national who sojourns for more than 24 hours in this country, becomes a tourist, said in an interview for the Bulgarian News Agency the Institute’s director Rumen Draganov.
According to him, in relation to the refugee flow, at the moment the entire concept of entering and exiting flow of passengers should be restructured, due to the unprecedented fact that citizens of countries outside the EU can freely enter it an move about. Europe should revise its visa policies in order to stop being open for non-economic passages of large groups of people, remaining at the same time conservative (enquiring visas) when it comes to tourist visits, BNR reports.
