“Georgi Kadiev stands the chance of [participating in] a run-off vote and such a possible in view of the high number of [mayor] candidates and the partitioning of the vote,” said Georgi Parvanov, leader of the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) party and former Bulgarian president, speaking for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) on Monday.

The ABV and the Bulgarian Social Democrats party signed Friday a political agreement on the establishment of a local coalition called Serdika in the capital city Sofia for the forthcoming local elections in Bulgaria

Lawmaker Georgi Kadiev will be the mayor candidate of the coalition in Sofia.

Georgi Parvanov commented the nomination of Kadiev for mayor runner in Sofia was a product of very long days of talks on the formula and manner of nominating him as well as the election campaign.

“What is more important is not the chronology of this decision but why namely Georgi Kadiev [is the nominee]? Because this is politician that is most of all a capital city resident. A capital city resident in terms of behaviour and competence,” Parvanov stated.

In his words, the coalition between the ABV and the Bulgarian Social Democrats party did not accidentally referred to Sofia’s glorious past through its name.
