7,640 migrants entered Bulgaria in 2015: official

“Some 7,640 migrants have entered the territory of the country since the start of 2015, which is 3,000 more compared with the same period in 2015,” said Senior Commissioner Antonio Angelov, Director of the General Directorate of Border Police, speaking at a briefing.

The senior commissioner commented that 54 people had been detained at the Bulgarian borders in the past twenty-four hours.

He added that 242 people had been stopped from entering the territory of the country.

“We use all available means of the Border Police and make efforts to protect not only the Bulgarian border but also the external border of the EU.

I do not say that we are an island of calmness, I am far from such a statement, but our efforts, thanks to the understanding on behalf of the government, make it possible not to allow turning the Bulgarian border into an open door for refugees heading at Europe,” Mr Angelov remarked.
