“Information that tens of thousands of migrants are heading towards our border is not true,” Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov said speaking in an interview on bTV.

Minister Mitov explained that there were between 1,500 and 2,000 people close to Edirne, Turkey.
“The Turkish authorities are working on discouraging these people from going to the EU borders and on returning them to the refugee camps,” the minister remarked.

He commented further that Bulgaria was ready for the refugee flows.

“We keep constant contact with Turkey. We should appreciate its efforts to withhold the migrant flows, especially towards the Bulgarian border,” he added.

“There were attempts for boats with migrants to berth at the Bulgarian Southern Black Sea coast but this is not a mass phenomenon. Our borders are protected,” Minister Daniel Mitov remarked.
