Now’s time to raise our voice high as pillar of European idea: Leader of Bulgaria’s MRF
“Now it is the time we, liberals, raise our voice high as a pillar of the European idea,” said Lyutvi Mestan, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), speaking at a leader’s meeting of the Liberal South East European Network (LIBSEEN).
“At the meeting today we reached a consensus decision on a draft resolution, which is to be finally approved. The declaration mainly emphasises our liberal vision that drawing up a new strategy for EU enlargement towards the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe is a solution to the crisis,” Mr Mestan noted.
“On the opposite, depriving the citizens of the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe [of EU membership] will deepen crisis issues. In the course of our conference we received information about the stances of Slovenia and Croatia, which have asked for the same in an official letter to Mr Tusk [President of the European Council Donald Tusk],” the MRF chair said further.
“Time calls for reconsidering the 5-year moratorium of Juncker [Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission (EC)] for it has caused great psychological damages not so much to the governments of the countries from the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe but rather to civil societies and their European dream. We have embraced as liberals the ambition of turning the word of liberalism into a synonym of a European dream of our friends from the Western Balkans and other countries in Southeast Europe, including Moldova and Ukraine. This is our liberal vision,” Lyutvi Mestan concluded.
