Bulgaria does not report significant progress in fight against corruption: Deputy PM

“What I can do is continue explaining what the anti-corruption law is about and compare it with other European practices. It is not good to be in one and the same union with countries where there are almost zero corruption and very strong institutions.

Bulgaria does not report significant progress in the fight against corruption,” said Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for European Policies Coordination and Institutional Affairs Meglena Kuneva speaking for Nova TV.

“I was obliged to propose the best possible practices and I did it. From now on, we have to strain every nerve so as the act to become a fact,” Ms Kuneva remarked.

She added that the act should not be referred to with its general notion – an anti-corruption act, but with its full title – Act on Prevention of Corruption in the High Levels of the Power.

“The Penal Code can be considered anti-corruption law, too, as well as the Public Procurements Act,” Ms Kuneva said further.
