No risk of serious pressure at Bulgaria-Turkey border in next days: expert

“Refugees, who were close to the Bulgarian border, have been convinced to return to the camps they came from. That is why there is no serious risk of pressure on the Bulgarian state border to Turkey over the next days,” said General Anyu Angelov, former minister of defence and adviser to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, commenting on the strong refugee pressure and the situation at the Bulgarian-Turkish border in an interview with bTV.

“According to the latest data of the refugee agency, there are 1,700,070 refugees in Turkey. Turkey hopes to get support from the EU to take care of these people,” Mr Angelov remarked.

The General explained that according to the statements of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davudoglu, Turkey was ready to transport the refugees to other countries by plane.

Asked whether Turkey was sending signals to the EU that if the country opened its borders, the union would be awash with foreign migrants, General Angelov said: “This is a risk that should be taken into account and it really is on behalf of the Bulgarian government. The risk turns into threat, while the threat – into danger.”

However, he believes that Turkey will not open its borders this way.
