“I appeal to all member states to realise the situation and show solidarity,” said European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker speaking at an EU Budget Focused on Results conference hosted by Bulgaria’s European Commission Vice President for the Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva in Brussels.

“As I said recently in my statement on the current state of the EU, we are addressing the huge challenges of the day with political means. Being politician means being a leader, making decisions. Politics under democracy is connected with responsibility. We are responsible before the Parliament, the Council, before all EU nations that expect jobs, growth and solution to the refugee crisis. This determines the crucial role of the budget in the core of our activity,” Mr Juncker remarked.

He greeted European Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva for taking care for all services to observe one and the same financial rules.

“We should take advantage of it for a solution to the refugee crisis. There is not enough Europe in the European budget. The refugees are sleeping under the rain. History will hold us responsible, if we fail in finding a humanitarian and civilised solution to the refugee crisis.

Closing the borders is not a solution. If one has serviced the bombs of the war, if one has cross the Mediterranean Sea with a rubber boat, then one will not stop before a fence,” Jean-Claude Juncker remarked.
