Direct foreign investments in Bulgaria EUR 41.5 mn more in H1 of 2015 y/y: economy minister

“Direct foreign investments in the first half of 2015 are EUR 41.5 million more than in the corresponding period of last year,” said Bulgarian Minister of Economy Bozhidar Lukarski, speaking Friday at a parliamentary control session in a reply to a question about the Bulgarian-Greek economic relations.

Referring to Bulgarian-Greek merchandise exchange, Lukarski stated the financial crisis in Greece and the obstacles posed to Greek companies created prerequisites for a decrease in it.

“Irrespective of this, statistical data on the first half [of the year] is positive. Our exports to Greece saw a positive trend from January to June 2015 and a growth of 9.8%. In absolute terms, exports in the first 6 months of 2015 topped EUR 744 million against EUR 677 million in the corresponding period of 2014. Imports, on the other hand, grew by 0.4% […],” the minister remarked.

According to him, with a view to the serious situation in Greece, the possibility of merchandise exchange between Bulgaria and Greece remaining the same or even decreasing this and next year is not ruled out.
