Allocation of resources should be adequate to refugee pressure EU countries face

“Europe is not prepared to handle the refugee crisis and Bulgaria is part of Europe. We should not perceive ourselves as the European periphery. A serious debate needs to be organised for the allocation of resources should be adequate to the refugee pressure separate EU member states face and we are an external border,” said Rumen Petkov, Deputy Chairperson of the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) party, speaking Sunday for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

“I remember the time Northern Africa exerted great refugee pressure on Italy but European solidarity had very clear parameters back then. The EU countries organised [their work] through Frontex and took on certain commitments,” Rumen Petkov stated.

In his words, institutions in Bulgaria should have a single stance on tackling the problem, turning their backs on political differences.
