“Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia has exhausted its capacity of establishing refugee centres and now we should invest in the security,” Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said speaking for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

In her words, Bulgaria is part of Europe and the world and the refugee issue is most burning at the moment.

“In my opinion, the front-burner issue in this problem is the security of the citizens. Two years ago, when the refugee crisis got more intensive, we opened two more refugee centres in Sofia and we raised the issue about the health status of the people coming here,” the mayor added.

According to the Mayor, the refugees should be divided into different groups – those escaping the war and legally entering Bulgaria through the border checkpoints, who are accommodated at the refugee centres, and those entering the country illegally and posing risks to the city, who require constant attention on behalf of the police.
