I hope Bulgaria will not become hotspot: ECVP Georgieva
“I hope that there will not be a need for Bulgaria to become a hotspot,” said European Commission Vice President for the Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva speaking in an interview with Nova TV.
“Many of the people heading to Europe now did it out of despair. They think that the world has neglected them, that their children have neither present nor future. Our job is to focus our efforts where the people in need are. This way we will not only help these people but also help ourselves and Europe. This way we provide help more efficiently,” Ms Georgieva remarked.
She added that it was much cheaper to help people where they currently were than when they came on European territory.
“The European Union (EU) renders serious help to Bulgaria, our country receives EUR 82 million. We also received more than EUR 12 million in the form of different aids when the refugee issue was burning here,” Kristalina Georgieva commented further.
“I hope that there will not be a need for Bulgaria to become a hotspot. We set these hotspots where there is strongest refugee pressure but it was not too long ago when there was tension at our border and refugees from Turkey arrived in Bulgaria. That is why we need to support the idea about such a capacity, which can be rapidly sent where it is most needed,” Ms Georgieva said.
