Bulgarian Minister of Defence Nikolay Nenchev started Tuesday an official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria with a meeting at the Algerian Ministry of National Defence, the press office of the Bulgarian ministry announced.

The Bulgarian minister met with Algeria’s Deputy Minister of Defence and Head of the General Staff Lieutenant-General Gaid Salah. In the frames of the meeting the ministries of the two countries inked an agreement on cooperation in the field of defence.

“Today we revive bilateral cooperation with a long history,” Minister Nenchev remarked at the signing ceremony.
“I believe that the agreement will contribute to strengthening the contacts in the field of military training and military medicine, which we are really proud of,” the Bulgarian minister added.

The two countries also expressed readiness to cooperate in the field of military information.  Minister Nenchev and Deputy Minister Salah also discuss the terrorism on world scale.

“I believe that we give a clear signal to our nations and to the entire world that we can cooperate and work together in the fight against terrorism,” Mr Nenchev remarked.

According to him, the military experts of the two countries should find common grounds. The Bulgarian minister also extended an invitation for join participation in drills.

“Nowadays terrorism is a global problem and the fight against it should be supported by the international community,” Minister Nenchev said further.

Algerian Deputy Minister Gaid Salah, on the other hand, remarked that the visit of the Bulgarian delegation headed by Minister Nenchev was a highest-level event after a long break.

“I believe that this agreement will give a new push to our relations,” Mr Salah remarked.
