“[This] subject is indeed concerning but not dramatic. The truth is there is a drawn up draft bill at the Ministry of Defence and a public discussion will begin,” said General Miho Mihov, Chairperson of the parliamentary Defence Committee, speaking for Nova TV on Thursday. He was referring to the fact if the amendments are tabled and passed, Bulgaria’s airspace could be guarded not only by the Bulgarian army but also jointly with ally forces.

According to Mihov, the details in the law need to be made more precise.

The parliamentary official noted Bulgaria’s century-old aviation can and should guard the Bulgarian air borders on its own.

In his words, not only fighter jets but also anti-aircraft missile troops guard the air borders. Another amendments would grant the ally forces the right to use weapons.
