Children's Museum Opens Doors in Bulgaria's Sofia

A museum created specially for children opened on Thursday in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

With 130 games and 12 permanent exhibitions, it offers children an insight into the world of knowledge, covering fields as diverse as biology, astronomy, architecture, paleontology, and archaeology.

A separate exhibition is dedicated to the future and how scientists are looking at possible options to tackle forthcoming challenges.

The opening ceremony of the museum, which was created by the America for Bulgaria Foundation, was attended by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and other officials.

"Muzeiko", a character whose name derives from the Bulgarian word for "museum", is described as "brave - except for when something scares him. And he is handsome, just as handsome as every triangle is. And he's smart - except for when he doesn't understand something".

The "centerpiece" of Muzeiko is a gigantic tree serving as a link between different eras. It connects past, present and future, to which each one of the three floors are dedicated respectively.

A 15-seat Planetarium offers programs and interactive conversations about the stars, the universe, the solar system, and many other things that might spark kids' imagination. The museum administration advises that tickets for the planetarium should be purchased electronically to reserve seats.

There will be "themed" programs on some days created for primary school groups.

Muzeiko is open from 10 to 18. Tickets are free for children under 4, worth BGN 6-8 for all the other children, and BGN 10-15 for adults.

There is also a possibility to purchase individual and family cards valid for a year.
