“Vignettes will stay; they will be modern and electronic,” said Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, speaking Thursday at the Eighth National Road Conference with International Participation at the Sol Nessebar Resort Hotel in the coastal town of Nesebar.

Lilyana Pavlova noted a report containing financial models would be compiled at the end of November. “We are aiming at the so-called combined system,” the official remarked.

In her words, the so-called vignettes for time will remain in force for vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. The vignettes will be electronic, which is expected to lead to a higher fee collection rate.

The introduction of the toll system for freight vehicles is currently considered.

According to Ms Pavlova, a fee will be paid for using certain roads and travelling certain distance on the road network.

The cabinet member informed work was done on price formation and the required legislative amendments. All of these will be brought up for discussion so that the authorities adopt a decision by the end of the year and the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) takes the respective actions to implement the system.
