Bulgaria receives EUR 6.4 million from EU Solidarity Fund to overcome consequences of calamities

Bulgaria will receive EUR 6.4 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund to cope with the damages of the heavy snowfall, floods, landslides and other natural calamities which hit that country in the beginning of 2015, Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Denitsa Nikolova and Bulgaria’s MEP Andrey Novakov announced. In Andrey Novakov’s words, the total cost of the damages caused by the calamities this year amounts to EUR 243 million. The money allotted by the EU Solidarity Fund is of great importance for Bulgaria, although it would cover a very small part of the damages, Mr Novakov further said. Bulgaria will most likely receive these funds in November. So far Bulgaria has received by the Solidarity Fund over EUR 11 million to overcome the consequences of several natural calamities.
