I like [Bulgarian Prime Minister] Boyko Borisov and have known him for a long time now. I have always believed he is an open person and is very committed to what he does,” said Geoffrey Van Orden, MEP with the European Conservatives and Reformists Group at the European Parliament (EP), speaking Saturday for Bulgaria’s Kanal 3.
 

“He is also a good friend and I am saying it in the purely political sense. If I have to speak as a British person, I can say he has backed lots of the changes the British Prime Minister wishes to introduce in the frames of the EU, which we hail. The changes we are after will have a positive effect on the entire EU,” Geoffrey Van Orden explained.
 

Referring to the period of time in which he was an EP rapporteur for Bulgaria, the MEP noted: “During my stay I grew attached to Bulgaria and continue to be interested in what takes place here. It was pleasant for me to present Bulgaria to my colleagues.”
 

Asked if Bulgaria should be monitored for the normal work of the judiciary and the Ministry of Interior, he replied: “The latest assessment led us to believe this process should continue. There are very acute problems that will take lots of time to be cleared up. Meeting with Boyko Borisov has reassured me and I see he has the ambition to deal with them,” Geoffrey Van Orden opined.
