Road Traffic Monitoring System To Be Launched in Bulgaria by end-October

An automated data acquisition and analysis system for road traffic data from motorways and first-class roads is to be completed by end-October, according to Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA).

90% of the main and auxiliary count points on the Trakia motorway, the Hemus motorway, the Lyulin motorway, the Struma motorway, and the Maritsa motorway, and on first-class roads, have been installed so far, according to reports of investor.bg.

The project envisages the installation of 100 traffic count points.

The necessary technological equipment has been supplied and installed.

The software necessary to process the data from the traffic count points is ready to be launched and the preliminary tests have shown a high degree of statistical accuracy.

2 of the total of 3 automated weather monitoring systems have been mounted, including one on the E-79 road, at the village of Dolna Verenitsa, Montana district, and one in the region of Kresnna, Blagoevgrad district.

The network of meteorological stations will allow accurate forecasts of road conditions and will send weather warnings to RIA units, drivers, and companies in charge of winter road cleaning.

All of the data collected at traffic count points and meteorological monitoring points will be recorded real-time via GPRS communication by the server center of the RIA.

The contractor of the project is a consortium called Kontrax Infra and the price tag stands at BGN 3.997 M, VAT excluded
The project uses co-financing under operational program Transport 2007-2013 and money from the national budget.
