EU again postpones Bulgaria’s and Romania’s accession to Schengen

The decision for the admission of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area will not be discussed this week by the Interior Minister from the European Union. The expectation of Bulgaria’s government were for a political decision to be taken at the regular sitting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council on October 8 and 9 for the gradual dropping of Schengen foreign borders for Bulgaria. Romania’s Prime Minister said yesterday in Parliament in Bucharest, that he, too has asked for the postponement due to considerations that under the rotational presidency of the Netherlands (January-June 2016) the EU will be voting the enlargement of the Schengen area and that the Schengen membership will be put off in the course of 2016 as well.
