Bulgarian President Plevneliev meets Dutch Foreign Minister

At a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Bert Koenders, Bulgarian President Rossen Plevneliev has called for a political solution of the EU for Bulgaria's accession to Schengen. "The right to free movement embodies the whole idea of a united Europe. Schengen is not limited to the implementation of technical requirements that we have long met, but is part of the overall process of European integration," the Bulgarian head of state pointed out and called on EU Member States to actively engage in this process. The Netherlands assesses highly the efforts and progress made by Bulgaria to meet the criteria for joining Schengen, Minister Koenders pointed out. During the meeting the commitments of Bulgaria and the Netherlands to take measures aimed at combating terrorism and increasing security in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, have also been confirmed.
