Every third in a car accident remains long-term handicapped

A transcript of a government meeting quoted by Kapital daily shows that every third person involved in a car accident remains disabled for long. According to statistical data on the victims of accidents on the road, presented by Healthcare Minister Petar Moscov, from the start of the year to end-September as many as 3752 victims have been treated in hospital and 1200 of them have remained with long-term disabilities. Payments for such treatment on the part of the health ministry and the health insurance fund for the treatment of car accident patients are above EUR 10 million, which equals the funding of a budget-sponsored large district hospital. Yesterday in a chain accident in one of the tunnels of Hemus Highway, three people lost their life, another 13 were injured, when 50 cars and trucks ran one into the other. Shortly after that, another two persons were killed in an accident at Trakia Highway.
