Bulgaria supports Turkey's inclusion in EU’s "safe countries of origin" list

Bulgaria supports Turkey's inclusion in the European "safe countries of origin" list, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva announced in Brussels. The list proposed by the European Commission qualifies all Balkan countries applying for EU membership as "safe." The aim is to reduce abuse of the European Asylum System. This means that citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey will have little chances of receiving refugee status. The list was not adopted at the last meeting of the EU interior ministers because of Turkey, as several Member States oppose including the country in the list, because of problems with justice and human rights there, as well as political repressions against Kurds.
