Responsibilities on national border protection shouldn’t be neglected, president says

President Rosen Plevneliev expressed his deepest regret for the incident near the Bulgarian – Turkish border with an Afghani migrant shot and wounded by a border police officer. The head of state once again called on for quick and joint all-European measures for the solving of the migration crisis. Mr. Plevneliev approves the quick reaction of the authorities, as well as the start of independent expertise with the purpose of fair assessment of the situation. The president appealed that the investigative bodies should be left to do their job at peace and the asylum seekers should comply with the rules and must not do anything contradictory to the Bulgarian and European legislation.

The National Police Syndicate of Bulgaria has already voiced to the public its support for the actions of Border Police officer Valkan Hambarliev, the shooter. The stance of the organization reads that it fully upholds the brave and responsible actions of the officer.
