2014 budget deficit twofold higher than expected

Data on the 2014 deficits and debts of the EU member-states, notified by the European Statistical System show that the budget deficit of Bulgaria, reported in advance by the financial ministry is not 2.8, but 5.8 percent of GDP. The difference is due mainly to the transfer of the Fund for Bank Deposits’ Guarantee from the sector of financial services to the State Management one. Being a part of the State Management sector, the fund paid the guaranteed deposits with the bankrupted Corporate Commercial Bank, thus changing significantly the budget deficit. Analyses of the Institute for Market Economy show that this year the government has a chance to keep the budget deficit within the 2 percent range.
