Day of silence ahead of polls, referendum in Bulgaria

It is a day of silence in Bulgaria ahead of the local elections and referendum that will be held on Sunday, October 25.

Electioneering as well as announcing results from public opinion polls in any shape or form is banned on this day in the country.

Gluing new election campaign posters is also strictly banned.

Election campaign posters have to be removed in up to 7 days after the election day.

About 6,363,000 people have the right to vote at the local elections and referendum. Voting will take place at 12,314 polling stations in Bulgaria and 294 polling stations abroad.523 people submitted requests, asking to vote in EU member states. Polling stations will open on the territory of 45 countries.

There are 137,455 requests filed by people asking to vote at the local elections on the basis of their current address. Some 102,950 requests were submitted by people asking to vote at the referendum on the basis of their current address.

The sanctions imposed over administrative violations are set in the Election Code.
