Main human traffickers are foreign nationals residing in Bulgaria: SANS head

“It is noteworthy that main human traffickers involved in this activity are foreign nationals”. That is what Dimitar Georgiev, chairman of the State Agency National Security (SANS) said at a briefing, at which were released data from the specialised operation conducted yesterday.

“Within the course of the specialised operation, which we carried out, were detained citizens of Syria, Iraq and Jordan and from the operational information we have, we have found that these are persons who are residing in Bulgaria,” Georgiev said.

“Given the fact that they pose threat to the national security, we have taken action and have imposed penal provisions for expulsion of persons from the territory of Bulgaria and a ban for five years to enter our territory,” he explained.

In his words, these individuals are used by migrants in order to facilitate their passage through Bulgaria, as all others who are of Bulgarian origin are accomplices who deal with human trafficking along those who mainly organise the whole process of transition of migrants.
