Bulgaria top prosecutor asks parliament for arrest of Ataka MPs
Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov asked the National Assembly for permission to arrest Volen Siderov and Desislav Chukolov, members of the parliamentary group of Ataka party, the press centre of the Prosecutor’s Office announced.
A criminal proceeding has been immediately initiated over hooliganism and compulsion committed at the head office of the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia on October 23.
The materials on the case were referred to the Prosecutor General on October 24, while in the morning of October 25 Mr Tsatsarov worked out requests for permission to initiate criminal proceeding against MPs Volen Siderov and Desislav Chukolov and their arrest.
At 9 a.m. on October 26 the requests were officially filed to the National assembly.
The collected evidence incriminates Volen Siderov and Desislav Chukolov of committing a crime of general character.
At around 8:25 p.m. on October 23 Siderov and Chukolov, together with other people, entered into the NATFA, while there were classes and rehearsals. Siderov and Chukolov started asking questions and making insults in a loud voice. The students decided to go back to the lecture-hall. Their move was followed by attacks on the door with following entrance of the entire group led by the two MPs. Thus Siderov and Chukolov interrupted the lectures.
While entering the hall the politicians were chanting “drug addicts”, “stupid actors, who will play in stupid Bulgarian TV series”, “fruitcakes”, “faggots”, and others. The MPs were also holding a photo of a person and were asking the students whether they knew him.
While the intrusion was underway a student took out her cell phone to record what is happening. When Siderov saw this he headed at her, took her hands, twisted them, pushed her to the wall and tried to take away the phone. Eventually, Siderov and another person took the phone and forced the girl to delete the photos she took of Siderov.
Someone called the police but when the patrol arrived the group led by Siderov had already left.
On October 12 the Prosecutor General asked the National Assembly for withdrawal of the immunity against prosecution of MPs Siderov and Chukolov over another scandal they incited [at a shop close to NATFA] but the parliament has not ruled on it yet.
