Protest staged against Bulgaria’s Ataka leader storming NATFA building (ROUNDUP)

Over 1,000 people took part in a peaceful protest against the storming the building of the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) on the part of Volen Siderov, leader of Ataka party, during the night after the local elections held on Sunday in Bulgaria.

The demonstration started in front of the Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the capital Sofia and the participants in it proceeded to the NATFA building stormed for a second time late on Sunday evening by Siderov.
There were lots of NATFA students and lecturers at the protest as well as citizens and famous actors.

There was stepped-up police presence in the area.

The protesters urged Volen Siderov has his MP’s immunity lifted and expressed their discontent with his actions by bursting into applause.

The protest ended up peacefully.

A police cordon prevented shortly afterwards a group of some 100 demonstrators from reaching the head office of Ataka party in Sofia.

The protesters in question headed to the Monument to revolutionary Vasil Levski and blocked roundabout traffic there.

After the demonstrators made unsuccessful attempts to reach the head office of Ataka party, they dispersed but vowed protests would continue if the institutions did not take actions Tuesday regarding the matter of stripping Siderov of MP’s immunity.
