Unit 6 of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant restarts operation

Unit 6 of Bulgaria’s Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant has restarted operation after a planned annual maintenance and modernization stop and is now connected to the country’s electrical grid. The modernization allows the unit to produce 50 megawatt hours of additional power. Planned repair works that started in September included some 7000 different parts of the structures and systems of the nuclear unit, which was also loaded with fresh nuclear fuel. A new stator weighing some 370 tons has also been installed, it was reported. Other repairs and upgrades are aimed at extending the period of operation and increasing the thermal capacity of the unit to 104%. The 1,000 MW Unit 5 of Kozloduy NPP has been operating at full capacity.
