Kristalina Georgieva: Bulgaria is second in European fund absoprtion speed

Bulgaria has picked up the rate of absoprtion of the funds the EU has earmarked for the 2007-2013, said Kristalina Georgieva and added:

“Over the period from 1 January to 12 October 2015  the country is second. We are now picking up speed because we had lagged behind at the beginning of the period. And even with these record sums, the country is still 23rd for the entire period.“

The Juncker investment plan for the creation of more jobs will be a success in Bulgaria, under certain conditions, said Kristalina Georgieva and explained:

“If we want to catch up with the other countries we need a growth rate of 4-5 percent annually, or more. We must generate more private investments. But why aren‘t more private investments entering Bulgaria? The reform in the judicial system must be completed. Unless people trust in lawcourts, they would hardly be likely to invest their money in Bulgaria. Education used to be a very powerful force in this country but that force has declined in the years of transition. The quality of labour has been dropping.“

"The EU‘s budget for refugees is up by almost 10 billion and it will be enough for this and for next year," Kristalina Georgieva said further. "The Commission will soon make public two important reforms – on a European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR) and amendments to the Dublin regulation by force of which foreign nationals apply for asylum in the first EU country they set foot in."
