On the Day of the National Revival Leaders the President of the Republic of Bulgaria officially became patron of the Saints Cyril and Methodius National Library in the capital city Sofia.
On Sunday Mr Plevneliev presented library’s director Professor Boryana Hristova with the Honorary Sign of the President’s Office and examined the exhibition of valuable books and archive data stored in the funds of the National Library.
“It is an honour to announce that from now on the Bulgarian Head of State will be the patron of the Saints Cyril and Methodius National Library,” President Rosen Plevneliev said during his visit to the National Library where he greeted the employees and the citizens of Bulgaria on the occasion of the Day of the National Revival Leaders.
“I am highly grateful to have the chance to be together on the Day of the National Revival Leaders, here in the spiritual centre of Bulgaria. I will seize the opportunity to greet the entire Bulgarian nation on the occasion of this bright holiday from the highest tribute and the most sacred place of the Bulgarian spirituality.
This is a holiday of the Bulgarian identity, of the enlighteners, revolutionaries, leaders of the national revival, men of letter and public figures, who contributed to the establishment of our self-esteem as a nation,” Mr Plevneliev remarked.
The Bulgarian Head of State pointed out that the National Library was one of the most significant cultural institutions because it sheltered the most valuable documents that established us as nation.
“If a nation does not have a proper approach towards its memory and history, it has no future either,” Rosen Plevneliev said.
“The President’s Office will organise several events in the National Library, including such of international importance. It will work for promoting your events, exhibitions, projects and conferences beyond this building and institution and we will help you prepare high-quality projects. This way we will improve the material base and the information database and let the 21 century technologies enter more easily,” Mr Plevneliev said after the Head of the State officially became patron of the National Library.
“I am convinced that this patronage will bring results. I do not do this over some formal reasons. I would like to assure you that I read very much. As a father I ask myself the question whether nowadays kids read and weather they love to read. Young people in Bulgaria should feel the emotion of the spiritual mission of our nation, they should get acquainted with the leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival and make efforts to make their deeds and work eternal,” Rosen Plevneliev said further.
