“Local elections are a severe defeat for the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP). However, this does not correspond to the suggestions about erasing the party from the political map of the country,” said Mihail Mikov, Chairperson of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), speaking at a press conference.
 

“I would like to thank those, who voted at the local elections without being motivated by money or other kind of benefits. I pity those, who voted for such benefits. 
 

I also thank the members, supporters and elections runners of the BSP, who really did their best,” Mr Mikov remarked. 
 

The politician summarised the results of the elections runoff saying that the BSP would have 60 mayors in municipalities and not a single mayor of a district city, which he determined as severe defeat suffered by the party. 
 

“There are many reasons to explain the results. We are yet to start an analysis and we will organise a sitting of the BSP National Council,” Mihail Mikov said.
 

“In the first place, the reasons are connected with the establishment of financial democracy in Bulgaria and the major political platform expressed in the payment of money. BSP took part in the elections fairly with a real political platform and leftist standards,” commented further. 
 

In his words, the weakness of the BSP is that it could not reach a broad circle of citizens, whose ideas are represented in the platform of the party.
 

“I would like to greet the winners with the high responsibility they undertake in a period that is very complex. BSP will remain the only authentic representatives of the majority of the Bulgarian citizens, people with leftist interests, as well as the real opposition and alternative to the current government,” Mihail Mikov said.
