“Let us not shift the focus from the burning issues of the day with possible legislative amendments. This is the easiest way to cover up things. The Bulgarian citizens place no trust in this. You noticed the low voter turnout, which becomes a tendency,” said Mihail Mikov, Chairperson of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), speaking at a press conference.
 

“We will back amendments that allow the organisation of fair elections in Bulgaria,” the politician remarked, commenting on the proposals for new amendments to the Elections Code. 
 

Mr Mikov added that the BSP would hold talks and analyse the facts and then decide whether the party would challenge the elections results. 
 

Asked whether he would hand in his resignation as leader of the socialists with regard to the elections results, Mihail Mikov said that the members of the BSP leadership had declared readiness to hand in their resignations.
 

“We will discuss the issue at the sitting of the BSP National Council. It is not about their resignations but about mine. I will not discuss this issue with you now, I will raise it before the BSP National Council,” Mr Mikov remarked. 
 

“I have assumed responsibility when the BSP Congress elected me for Chairperson of the National Council. I do not think that the resignation is the only form of responsibility. I will discuss the issue before the National Council,” the politician added.
