Bulgaria is example for improperly allotted means under EU programmes

The largest quantities of improperly distributed EU means are under the programmes “Economic, social and territorial cohesion”, given at the disposal of the newly associated members of the Union, Bulgaria among others. This information comes from the report of the EU auditors for 2014. The president of the European Court of Auditors Vitor Caldeira presented the main points before the Budget Control Committee at the European Parliament. Particular problems have been found in five countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Romania and Slovakia, where the levels of utilization of EU funds are considerably lower than the average EU level. Failure to comply with rules on public procurement has been registered in Bulgaria and another seven EU members. This country is given as an example of bad practices of paying money under programmes in agriculture to companies that have not met the requirements.
