Probing for gas in the Bulgarian waters of Black Sea begins

In the period February-May 2016 the first drilling for petrol and gas in the Khan Asparuh block is to begin, said the head of Total-Bulgaria Xavier Faugeras. The depth of the waters, where the drilling will start, is 2 000 meters, but then drilling will continue in the rock at a depth of 4 000 meters. The drilling device is a ship of 180-strong crew. The Khan Asparuh block covers a surface of 14 220 square kilometers. A second drilling will take place there in the first quarter of 2017, Faugeras informed. The first probe will take 5-7 months with an investment to the tune of 700 000 and 1 million euros per day. The period between the start of drills and the actual extraction of fuels is generally about 10 years. Drilling in the Black Sea will be done through environmentally friendly methods. The rocks obtained during the breaking of the reef will be taken out to the shore and used for the production of concrete.
