Head coach of the Bulgarian national team in skiing dies in a car accident in Austria

A 39-year-old driver injured in a car accident in Sölden, has died, according to Austrian edition Tiroler Tageszeitung. The information is not officially confirmed yet. If the bad news is confirmed, it means that we are talking about Drago Grubelnik. Only he among the three injured in the crash is at the age of 39 years.

Earlier today FOCUS News Agency announced that the head coach of the national team in skiing Drago Grubelnik, his assistant Dimitar Hristov and Bulgarian young alpine ski racing talent Albert Popov crashed after training in the Austrian winter sports centre of Sölden.

Bulgarian skier with the Alpine skiing team Albert Popov is in good condition and there is no danger to his life. That is what spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Betina Zhoteva said for FOCUS News Agency in connection with the incident, in which three members of our national team in Alpine skiing were injured in a crash in Austria. Mrs Zhoteva explained that the skier is hospitalized in Innsbruck.

“He already spoke to his parents. Our consul in Austria Ivaylo Varbanov also contacted them and Popov. There is no danger for his life, hopefully soon to be discharged from the hospital,” the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry said.
