Access to bank accounts in Bulgaria expands

Parliament endorsed changes in the Act on Credit Institutions, according to which the Central Bank of Bulgaria is to create and maintain an electronic information system managing the numbers of bank accounts, their holders and the persons authorized to administer the accounts. Access to information from the system will be given to the judiciary power, the Ministry of the Interior, the State Agency for National Security, the National Agency for Revenues and the Commission for withdrawal of criminal assets. The measure is targeted against the growing number of cases of trans-border tax evasion and revenue concealing on a European and world scale.
