Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov held a meeting with Yang Xiong, Mayor of the city of Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

This meeting was the beginning of Borisov’s visit to China, in the frames of which he will take part in the 4th Meeting of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European countries, the press service of the Government announced.

“There is unanimity in Bulgaria China is our most important strategic partner in Asia and our relations should develop. This is my first visit to the country as we wanted to come with prepared projects – [at a time] when we can propose a concrete thing,” said Prime Minister Borisov, speaking at the meeting.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds and Economy Policy Tomislav Donchev, 6 ministers, and MPs with all parliamentary groups, all of whom are part of the delegation Boyko Borisov leads to China.

The government head presented the possibilities for cooperation in the sphere of high technologies and expressed his gratitude for the cooperation for the organisation of a Bulgarian-Chinese economic forum in Shanghai, which will offer fresh prospects for business to both countries.

Borisov also voiced his support for the signing of an agreement on the twinning of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and Shanghai, the population of which numbers some 24 million.

“We have the ambition to develop the city as a leading world economic, trade, financial, and port centre,” said Mayor of Shanghai Yang Xiong.

In his words, this will contribute to the development of relations with Bulgaria.

According to Yang Xiong, a number of Bulgarian products are known in China.

The mayor said he consumed Bulgarian yoghurt every morning.

Prime Minister Borisov invited him to pay a visit to Sofia for the signingof the agreement.
