Moderate optimism for the winter tourist season

Representatives of the tourism sector are moderately optimistic that the winter season will be good, Deputy Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva told reporters at the opening of Go2Balkans Tourist Expo at the Inter Expo Center in Sofia. Everybody is worried by the warm weather, but overall bookings are going well, as hoteliers rely on increased bookings in the last minute, added the Deputy Minister.

Among the markets from which Bulgaria expects a growth in the upcoming winter season are Israel, Moldova, Great Britain, Slovakia, Macedonia as well as the traditional Balkan markets - Greece, Romania and Turkey. These three countries are among the countries generating the highest number of tourists and revenue for Bulgarian inbound tourism, Deputy Minister Georgieva recalled.

For 2014, tourists from Greece to Bulgaria were over 1 million, from Romania just over half a million and from Turkey a little under 500,000. Georgieva said that she had no impressions that the crisis in Greece had affected the tourist travel of Greeks in the summer and expressed hope it would not seriously affect the upcoming winter season.
