Bulgaria energy minister: Liberalisation not a one-time act but a long-term process

“It should be clear to the Bulgarian consumers that the full liberalisation of the energy market is a process, which has to be realised in the country,” Bulgarian Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova said speaking for bTV.

“Bulgaria is one of the last countries in the EU not to have already liberalised its market. This is an engagement we have undertaken and we should realise,” Ms Petkova remarked.

“The full liberalisation means that certain new things have to happen in the Bulgarian energy sector. After the liberalisation the energy price will not be set by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission but by the demand and supply,” the energy minister explained.

“The suppliers will be in competition to launch the best offers for the consumer. This is a whole process, it is not a one-time act and we cannot say that the liberalisation will be a fact for everyone. There will be an intermediate period in which consumers will choose the best supplier,” Minister Petkova said further.
