Bulgaria to keep its military contingent in Afghanistan in 2016

Bulgaria insists to lay a firm fundament of its bilateral relations with Macedonia through the signature of the agreement of good neighborly relations, which has been a subject of negotiations for a long time, Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov told the Bulgarian National Radio on occasion of the appeal of the NATO Foreign Ministers sent to Macedonia to improve its relations with neighboring countries. Our counterparts in Skopje know well that we have been insisting on the signature of such agreement, Minister Mitov further said. Daniel Mitov also said that Bulgaria is to keep its contingent of 84 military men in Afghanistan in 2016. Minister Mitov proposed that Bulgaria should send ten more advisers to that mission to train the Afghani security forces. Besides, Minister Mitov welcomed NATO’s invitation to Montenegro to join the alliance. This is a very strong message in times of heavy geopolitical turbulence, which is of great significance for the stability of the Balkan region, Daniel Mitov said.
