“The flu outbreak in Bulgaria is expected in the beginning of next year, probably in January,” said Professor Mira Kozhuharova, national consultant in epidemiology, speaking for Radio FOCUS.

Ms Kozhuharova commented further that there were no new flu viruses registered, while the sick rate in the respiratory diseases was lower compared with previous years.

“Currently the season is very week in all European countries. There are isolated flu viruses in some of them but there aren’t any in Bulgaria yet,” the expert said.

Ms Kozhuharova remarked that the flu should not be underestimated, and warned that people should not treat themselves without consulting with a doctor.

“The self-treatment with antibiotics is not recommended because it may lead to serious consequences,” the professor added.
