Refugees with potential to aid economic growth

The EU Commissioner for Employment,Social Affairs, Skills and Labor Mobility Marianne Thyssen and Bulgarian Deputy PM and Social Minister Ivailo Kalfin joined a press conference on the sidelines of the fifth ministerial on labor issues part of the Asia-Europe dialogue on the topic “Towards Sustainable Social Development in Asia and Europe: A Joint Vision for Decent Work and Social Protection". Marianne Thyssen recalled that not less than 20% of the budget of the European Social Fund is allocated to finance opportunities and solve problems related to the social inclusion of refugees. If refugees are properly integrated in European society, they have the potential to aid economic growth and the creation of new jobs, the EU commissioner believes. Ivailo Kalfin said that the Bulgarian position was linked to that Europe would meet its obligation to receive people fleeing war with their families. He stressed refugees must receive aid away from Europe, without the need to pass through channels of human traffickers and without risking their lives and spending thousands of dollars to reach Europe.
