“Irina Bokova has been for a second mandate now an excellent head of UNESCO,” said Spas Panchev, leader of the Aleksandar Stamboliyski Agrarian Union party, speaking for FOCUS News Agency.

In his view, Ms Bokova is a good professional, has experience, and enjoys immense prestige worldwide.

“We think the Bulgarian public, parties, President, government, and parliament should explicitly back her nomination to become the next UN Secretary-General without discussing other candidacies so that there is for the first time a Bulgarian occupying this highest-ranking post in international administration,” Panchev commented.

He explained this was one of the declarations they had unanimously backed.

A second declaration is related to the agrarian formation’s desire for the Bulgarian government to distinguish itself from the sanctions on Russia.
